The 8th annual Pygora Fiber Frenzy was
held at the Washington County Fair Complex in Hillsboro, OR. This show is held in January as it is a great time for the
Pygora goats to be shown in their winter's best fleece. The show is aimed at featuring the Pygora goats and a full
range of sanctioned shows for all ages of animals took
place.
This was the 2nd year in
it's expanded venue. This
was the best attended show in it's history and by all
accounts from vendors and exhibitors alike, it was a huge
success.
There were 13 vendor booths with all
types of fiber, fiber processing equipment and educational
material. There
was a booth that demonstrated the use of the Pygora fiber in
creating beautiful end products.
Chris Utterback, our PBA sanctioned
judge, again demonstrated not only her judging ability but
she also was able to help educate the audience as she gave
her results.
The Fiber Frenzy has historically been
one of the largest shows in the U.S.
It is a great place to see animals in their full
fleece. It is one of the 2 shows that there is a sanctioned class for
senior bucks.
As we took a lunch break, a group of
youngsters got in the ring to play in the straw.
It reminded me of what this show and raising animals
means to me. Seeing
young and old alike at the show connecting with their
animals and each other.
With all of the events of this past year, it should
remind us all how great it is to live in this country.
I'd like to take a minute to thank some
special people without whose "behind the scenes"
help we could never have had as successful a show:
-
Susan
Prechtl for handling the vendor registrations and for
working all year long in organizing the Pygora Finished
Products display area.
Not to mention all the other many details you helped pull
together.
-
Julie
Case for helping plan the floor layout from vendor areas
to animal pens to the show ring.
Thanks for helping make posters and banners and
for being our show recorder.
Thank you for the late nights spent setting up
for the show.
I'd also like to say a special thanks
to the Northwest Pygora Club and all our sponsors.
The show has never been on as solid a financial
ground in it's history.
We are already starting the planning for next years
event. It will
be bigger and better than ever.
Happy kidding,
